Deciphering The Extruder Production Process

Feb 10, 2022

What is the whole process of the extruder in the production process? Now let's bring everyone to decipher the content of this level. Mixing, melting, kneading An extruder is like a meat mixer: the kneaded raw materials are fed into the equipment, more or less exposed to heat, then evenly mixed, squeezed according to the hole of the material tube, and then cut by a cutting knife (Granular). Two high-torque extruder screws transmit the kinetic energy necessary for kneading to the raw materials. Therefore, the continuous extruder is sometimes called "extruder screw agitator".

For simple applications, if the production process only includes one or two stages, a single screw extruder can be used to carry out the actual operations of forming, steaming and melting. For complex production and manufacturing applications, including three-stage and large-scale technological processes, such as mixing, homogenization, spreading, and additive or color paste blending technological processes, it is necessary to rotate the twin single-screw extruder in the same direction.

For example, if the selected auxiliary materials are added at one end of the extruder, it is very possible to obtain formed fresh noodles, casual snacks, and breakfast cereals at the other end. By changing the secret recipe of auxiliary materials, it is possible to obtain formed pet food for cats and dogs. If the temperature and shear stress are increased (after the seasoning is cut and separated, the seasoning is then allowed to remix), it is possible to produce fish feed, in other words to increase the storage life of high-nutrient products, such as bran. Buhler's continuous extruder has even been used to pellet reed grass to produce potted flower pots. For PET flakes recovered from waste plastics, Buhler's continuous extruder uses midstream and downstream solid-phase polycondensation reactions.
