What is PP Plastic Sheet

PP Plastic Sheet include any flat, continuous piece of plastic material that is relatively stiff. These materials can be thin, but are generally more substantial than plastic film, which can be rolled and manipulated without any specialized equipment.
PP Plastic Sheet are defined as a continuous form of plastic material thicker than .010″ (.25mm) and usually wound on a core, but mostly cut into sheets. Anything thinner is considered plastic film.
There is a HUGE universe of plastic film materials, from those made of a simple single plastic material, to complex structures made of different materials and coatings designed to meet the needs of specific applications.

Type of PP Plastic Sheet

Polycarbonate Plastic Sheets
This material is one of the most popular options for plastic sheets. It's a great all-rounder sheet suitable for multiple applications, making it easy to use if you have leftovers. However, polycarbonate plastic sheets are most commonly used for secondary glazing due to their high impact resistance and transparency.

HIPS Plastic Sheets
We're all aware of the protective layer that keeps our parcel safe during transit, but this material has another purpose you may not know. HIPS plastic sheets are incredibly lightweight and versatile, despite their own fragile state.

Polypropylene Sheets
You may recognise this material as the sturdy box holding your folders or even being the folder itself. Polypropylene sheets are extremely durable despite their flexibility. While they are most commonly used in packaging, they are also used in automotive components due to their chemical resistance.

PETG Sheets (Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol)
Highly durable and tough, PETG sheets, also known as polyethylene terephthalate glycol, have excellent transparency making them suitable for a variety of applications. You have likely seen these plastic sheets all around you in shopping centres, restaurants, and industry settings, and these benefits will tell you why.

Foam PVC Sheets
Sometimes you just want a block-colour plastic sheet that still protects you from other people but offers more privacy. Commonly seen in commercial settings, foam PVC sheets thrive in colder environments, keeping you warm during low temperatures. They are also non-porous, deterring harmful bacteria from entering the material and reaching you.

Acetal Sheets
There is no stronger, stiffer sheet than acetal. This highly durable material is extremely versatile, used in the majority of industrial applications. They also flourish in colder climates while still keeping that insulation in low temperatures. Overall, acetal sheets are favoured in the engineering industry for their many benefits.

How to Prevent PP Plastic Sheet From Aging

PP sheet is actually a semi-crystalline material, which is harder and has a higher melting point than PE sheet.PP material has a very low heat distortion temperature, low transparency, low gloss and low rigidity. But it has stronger impact strength. The strength of PP increases with the increase of ethylene content. Because of the high crystallinity, the surface stiffness and scratch resistance of this material are very good. PP sheet does not have the problem of environmental stress cracking. The sheet can be modified by adding glass fiber and metal additives or thermoplastic rubber. PP materials have excellent moisture absorption resistance, acid and alkali corrosion resistance and solubility resistance.

PP sheet is a semi-crystalline plastic sheet. If exposed to the outdoors for a long time, it may cause the plastic sheet to age and affect its strength. Therefore, how to prevent the aging of plastic sheets is a problem that many factories are studying. There are several methods for the aging of plastic sheets at present.

1. Using appropriate heat stabilizers, adding auxiliary heat stabilizers and pigments can improve the atmospheric aging resistance of plastic sheets.

2. Iron oxide red, phthalocyanine blue, carbon black, phthalocyanine green and titanium dioxide are pigments with good weather resistance to prevent aging, but white powder will precipitate during aging.

3. Adding an appropriate amount of titanium dioxide to the PP sheet formula will not affect the original mechanical properties of the sheet, but greatly improve the atmospheric aging resistance of the plastic sheet.

4. In the PP plastic sheet formula, barium tin stabilizer can be used instead of lead salt stabilizer, which can not only relatively reduce the amount of stabilizer, but also improve the impact toughness and atmospheric aging resistance of the plastic sheet.

5. Adding an appropriate amount of ultraviolet absorber: Such as UV-9, UV-P, etc. It is a powerful measure to improve the atmospheric aging resistance and color fastness of plastic sheets.

Considerations When Sourcing PP Plastic Sheet

Individual hobbyists, DIYers, and businesses of any type and size can all benefit from using dedicated PP Plastic Sheet suppliers, considering how widespread the material has become. Choose a supplier that can meet all your needs in terms of quality, material selection, fabrication and finishing processes, quantity, and lead times. Not all plastic suppliers are the same, though, and there are a few things to look out for:

Materials and Fabrication Processes
Materials will obviously differ depending on your needs. Do you need a few pieces of polycarbonate sheet for your new carport, acrylic for your showroom windows, or polypropylene prototypes for engineered automotive parts? Everyone has different concerns when running a business, and products made from the right materials ensure quality, longevity, and precision. These need to be manufactured into the end product using the right fabrication processes, an area where most plastic suppliers diverge.

Suppliers With the Right Equipment
If you've singled out a PP Plastic Sheet supplier either as a local business (thereby cutting transport costs or times) or one that has provided the lowest quotes, then follow up by checking the equipment they use. Machinery and technology used in plastics fabrication are evolving by the day and expanding the possibilities of available products.

Scope, Quantity and Lead Times
A plastic supplier sourcing products from PP Plastic Sheets in multiple industries, for instance, construction, automotive, medical, or engineered products, is one that offers versatility, the know-how and trained staff to deliver a wider set of products. These will also be more likely to meet individual needs in custom projects.

Process of PP Plastic Sheet

PP Plastic Sheet is a plastic product widely used in the construction, packaging, medical and other industries. The following is the general production process of PVC plastic sheet:

Batching: First, according to the formula, PVC resin, additives (such as stabilizers, fillers, colorants, etc.) and other modifiers (such as plastic additives, antioxidants, etc.) are mixed evenly in a certain proportion. During the batching process, it is necessary to ensure the quality and proportion of various raw materials to ensure the performance of the final product.

Premixing: The prepared materials are sent to the premixing equipment (such as a high-speed mixer) for premixing to make the materials more evenly mixed. During the premixing process, pay attention to controlling the temperature to avoid material degradation.

Conveying: The premixed materials are sent to the extruder through conveying equipment (such as a conveyor belt).

Extrusion: The material is melted in the extruder under high temperature and high shear conditions, and the extruder screw is pushed to continuously extrude the formed sheet from the outlet of the extruder. In this process, the temperature, speed and other parameters of the extruder must be controlled to ensure the molding quality of the sheet.

Calendering: The extruded sheet is sent to the calender for calendering. During the calendering process, the sheet must be processed under high temperature and high pressure to make its thickness uniform and its strength improved. During the calendering process, attention should be paid to controlling parameters such as temperature and pressure to ensure the performance of the sheet.

Cooling: The calendered sheet is quickly cooled by cooling equipment (such as cooling water tank) to reduce its temperature to room temperature for subsequent processing.

Thickness measurement: In order to ensure the uniform thickness of the sheet, the sheet needs to be measured for thickness, such as using a thickness gauge for online detection.

Trimming: The sheet may produce burrs during the production process, and the burrs need to be removed by trimming equipment to ensure that the edges of the sheet are neat.

Inspection: The produced sheets are inspected for appearance, thickness, strength and other items to ensure that the product quality meets the requirements.

Packaging: Qualified sheets are packaged and then stored in the warehouse waiting for shipment.
